What is the best The Sinking City 2 build?
There is no verified S-tier list. Start ammo-efficient on a pistol (weak points, cheap ammo). Pull a shotgun for chokes and an SMG for surrounds. Retune in a Safe Room.
This The Sinking City 2 builds page is the pairing sheet: an ammo-efficient pistol lane or a shotgun-pressure lane, plus the talents you can actually seat. This is not a class tree and not a fake S-tier DPS board. The Sinking City 2 (Frogwares / Frogwares) is single-player survival horror — you retune a kit when the room changes. A The Sinking City 2 build is four live pieces, not a job title. You carry one default firearm, one panic or pressure gun you can afford to fire, a thin talent seat, and the pack slots those guns occupy. Steam’s own feature list says you retune the build after a hard fight or a retreat. That sentence is the whole design: kits change in a Safe Room, they do not start as “Shotgun Class.” Exact damage tables stay TBA. The pairings below are community-observed from a beginner guide and an early full-game playthrough.
The default gun is the one whose ammo you can restock — almost always a handgun (Shale Mary if you have the Chthonic Arsenal, otherwise the opening pistol). The pressure gun is the shotgun or SMG you pull when the room is a choke or a surround, then stash again. Talents / Perks are the Safe Room seats: faster swap once two guns exist, less incoming harm if you eat grabs, craft-more-ammo while you print a stack. Pack slots are the hidden fourth piece — a shotgun that “just takes up a lot of space” is a kit tax, not a flex. Attachments (axe-on-shotgun, Cutter’s Sturdy Stock-style back-damage examples from public guides) ride the pressure gun; names and slots stay TBA until your inventory says otherwise.
There is no class picker and no mage tree. Melee is a resource-saving string after a dodge — one or two hits on a winded enemy, then back to space. It is not a “melee build.” Nail-the-weak-point is a habit, not a third archetype. A ranked “best The Sinking City 2 builds” graphic that invents S-tier DPS is not a first-run plan. This page will not reprint one. You are Calvin Rafferty the whole time — leftover “class / character swap” thinking from other games does not apply.
Higher-tier weapons are more powerful and they take more of a finite inventory and they want more expensive ammo. That is the beginner-guide rule, not a complaint. The pistol stays legal through the campaign once upgraded: precise, hard enough, cheapest stack to keep. The tommy gun exists so a surround does not become six wasted pistol magazines. The shotgun exists so a doorway stops being a fair fight. If you cannot name which of those three you will fire in the next room, you do not have a build yet — you have a bag.
The ammo-efficient kit is the default The Sinking City 2 build: one handgun you upgrade, weak-point discipline, melee only on a free window, traps before bullets, and a retreat when the trade is bad. It is the kit you wear into an average street. The shotgun and SMG stay in the stash or on a hip you refuse to panic-touch until the room type changes.

| Piece | What you seat | Why it is cheap |
|---|---|---|
| Firearm | Opening pistol or Shale Mary (Chthonic) | Ammo is the easiest to stockpile; upgrade it instead of replacing it |
| Aim rule | Weak points only — community-observed ~6→3 shots on a shambler | Each weak point ≈ two regular hits; body spam is a wipe |
| Reticule | Early close-in reticle is accuracy, not bonus damage | The damage upgrade is a find, not a default |
| Melee | 1–2 hits after a dodge when the target is winded / down | Free damage; spam melee after a dodge still eats your face |
| Traps / barrels | Bait, then one shot or zero | A dozen bullets become one |
| Talent / Perk | Less harm if you eat hits · craft-more-ammo at the table | Swap speed waits for a second gun |
| Pack | Pistol + small ammo + one heal — not a shotgun tourist kit | Soft drops adapt when you are already starving |
A typical zombie that eats six bullets on the body dies in three if you hit the weak points that pop on the mesh — community-observed beginner math, not a studio damage sheet. Coming from Resident Evil, the closing reticule does not add damage until you find that upgrade; early on it is a little extra accuracy. Aim, shoot, stop. Panic spray is how you learn the load-save button. Slither pustules / red points, Deep Ones in water, Shadows that bend space — the enemies page is the tell list. This kit only cares that you spend one round where two used to go.
Dodge is “pretty dang useful” and most enemies telegraph. It does not grant invincibility frames — you can still get hit while moving. Stand too close and a grab goes through the dodge (worms-in-the-lungs warning from the same clip). Dodge a bit earlier than you think. After a clean evade, some targets end up winded, turned, or flattened — that is one or two melee hits, then back to space. It is slow and you should not do it every fight. You should do it when the pistol stack is the only stack you have. If the room is already a surround, this kit’s answer is disengage, pack them into a conga line, or run to a door. Finished looting? Do not clean stragglers for pride. Blue rooms on the map mean you already won the economy.
Seat craft more ammo in the Safe Room, print pistol rounds, swap the perk off. Buy less incoming harm if grabs are what dump your heals. Do not buy faster swap until a second gun is real. That is the whole talents pair for this lane. Crafting formulas stay TBA; the trade is still “ammo versus healing from the same mats.” Print what the next street needs.
Commit to shotgun pressure when the room is a choke, a grab-range hallway, or a thing that should not get a second swing — not because a thumbnail said “shotgun is S.” Frogwares’ own combat notes call the shotgun punchy. An early full-game pickup shows a shotgun with two modification slots (community-observed; on-screen name TBA — the playthrough’s ASR reads like a surgeon-themed gun). Breakwater is the named Chthonic shotgun if your edition includes the arsenal. The kit is “pull it, spend it, stash it.” It is not “walk every street with the shotty out.”

| Lane | Gun | When you pull it | Talent / Perk pair | Stash when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ammo-efficient default | Pistol / Shale Mary | Average street, weak-point duels | Less harm · craft-more-ammo at rest | Never — this is the wear gun |
| Shotgun pressure | Breakwater or early 2-slot shotgun | Doorway, grab range, one target that must drop now | Faster swap (once you have both) · shotgun item perks | Thin streets, empty pack, you keep ADSing it by accident |
| Swarm hose | Tektite Tommy / SMG | Encircles from more than one angle | Swap speed · keep pistol ammo in reserve | The line is already a 1v1 again |
| Melee saver | Fists / blunt after a dodge | Winded or downed target, zero spare rounds | Flashlight-off melee if that node is live | You are still in swing range of a grab |
The logged pickup is excited about two modification slots. Public guides already named at least one shotgun stock that pays more damage to a back (Cutter’s Sturdy Stock — verify on your save). An axe attachment on a shotgun is a preview / kit example, not a mandatory craft. None of that changes the pack math: the same playthrough said the shotgun takes up a lot of space and was tempted to stash it so they would not waste a shell by accident. That is the kit. Attachments live on weapons. This page only decides when the gun is allowed to leave the stash.
A doorway, a stair, a boat ramp, a Safe Room threshold — shotgun. A long flooded street with one shambler — pistol weak points. A surround from two stairs — SMG burst, then pistol again. If you have already finished a room (map gone blue), do not spend shells on leftover bodies. If you have not (map still red), you left loot, not an excuse to test Breakwater on every corpse. Investigations that pay a better gun are optional; skip them when the pack cannot hold the reward.
You retune in a Safe Room: stash the pressure gun, seat the perk that matches the next work, craft or heal, swap the combat seats back on, save, leave. Official feature copy already uses that verb — retune the build. You do not pick a new class. You do not need a respec town. You need a rest and an honest pack.
| The room changed to | Wear this | Seat this | Do not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average street / weak-point duels | Pistol default | Less harm or a combat perk you verified | Walk with the shotgun out “just in case” |
| Craft / heal block in a Safe Room | Whatever is stashed | Craft-more-ammo or the heal perk, then swap off | Leave the room with the craft perk still on |
| Doorway / grab-range elite | Shotgun pressure | Faster swap so the pistol is one button away | Empty the shell stack on a lone shambler |
| Multi-angle swarm | SMG hose, then pistol | Swap speed · keep a retreat path | Reload the SMG in the circle |
| Already-cleared (blue) leftover | Nothing — run | Whatever you had | Spend the good ammo on pride |
| Empty pack / soft-drop starve | Pistol + one heal | Craft seats if you can print | Tour with Breakwater and three heal stacks |
Wrong gun for the tell, panic SMG, or a shotgun you ADSed on a thin street — that is a Safe Room swap and a tips habit, not a new “class.” If the pistol weak points are landing, stay on the ammo-efficient lane. If a choke keeps eating you, pull Breakwater for that room and put it back. If flashlight-off melee is the node you bought and you still eat grabs, fix the dodge timing (treat i-frames as short / unreliable, dodge early, keep distance) before you spend the next Essence. The beginner guide is the first-hours loop; this page is only the pair you wear after a rest exists.
NG+ at launch carries perk points, perks, and items — exact rules TBA. That is when you finish unpublished talent branches and try a heavier shotgun-first pack, not when you invent a third class. A first clear that tries to max every node and every named gun will starve the survival pack. Walk the next region on the walkthrough; come back here when a named attachment or a second Essence table actually changes the pair.
There is no verified S-tier list. Start ammo-efficient on a pistol (weak points, cheap ammo). Pull a shotgun for chokes and an SMG for surrounds. Retune in a Safe Room.
No traditional class tree. Official copy talks about retuning a build. You pair a firearm kit with Talents / Perks, not a job name.
A pressure kit: Breakwater or an early two-slot shotgun for doorways and grab range, then stash it so you do not waste shells. It is not a class you pick at the start.
Pistol for average fights — cheapest ammo once upgraded. SMG (Tektite Tommy if you have it) when you are encircled. Higher-tier guns cost more pack space and more expensive ammo.
Community-observed beginner math: about six body shots, or three if you hit weak points (each weak point worth about two regular shots). Confirm on your difficulty. HP stays TBA.
As a saver, not an archetype. After a dodge, take one or two hits on a winded target. Spam melee still gets you grabbed. Treat dodge i-frames as short / unreliable.
Less incoming harm if you eat hits. Faster swap once a second gun exists. Craft-more-ammo while you print stacks, then swap off. Full tree names stay TBA.
No. It is punchy and it taxes inventory. Early playthroughs stash it so they do not spend it by accident. Pull it for a choke.
Yes. Official and community notes treat running to a door or Safe Room as valid. A win that empties the pack is a dead man walking.
Guns: weapons. Essence seats: talents. Pack: survival. Weak points: enemies. First hours: beginner guide.
